Challenge sponsoring

Supporter conditions

Preliminary version. The final supporter conditions are currently under legal and tax review. This page provides transparent information and does not constitute legal or tax advice.

This overview explains how supporting a community challenge with a supporter package works – in particular the transparent separation of impact budget and the Herz-Kilometer service fee.

Transparent separation: impact budget and service fee

Impact budget and the Herz-Kilometer service fee are kept transparently separate. The service fee finances the platform, challenge page, sponsor integration, tracking, dashboard and reporting. The supporting company pays the impact budget directly to the selected project, via betterplace or to the named NGO. Herz-Kilometer does not collect this impact budget. A possible donation receipt is not issued by Herz-Kilometer and depends on the specific handling via the project, betterplace or the NGO.

Binding nature of the impact pledge

By purchasing a supporter package you make a binding impact pledge for the stated impact budget. You pay the impact budget after the challenge ends or after the agreed kilometers are reached, directly to the selected project, via betterplace or to the named NGO – not to Herz-Kilometer.

If the kilometer goal is not reached

The challenge results are shown transparently in the final report. The supporter package counts as fixed support for the challenge and not as an automatic pro-rata refund per kilometer not reached. A precise rule will be defined in the final supporter conditions.

Donation or sponsoring?

For services such as logo placement, reporting or visibility, the tax treatment may be sponsoring, marketing or CSR expense rather than a classic donation. Please review the tax treatment internally or with your tax advisor.

Donation receipt

Herz-Kilometer does not issue a donation receipt. Whether a donation receipt is possible depends on the specific handling via betterplace, the project or the NGO.

Service fee and VAT

The Herz-Kilometer service fee finances the platform, challenge page, sponsor integration, tracking, dashboard, reporting and communication material. It is charged plus statutory VAT and is the only payment made in the Herz-Kilometer checkout.

Proof and data protection

After paying the impact budget, you upload a payment proof. After review we mark your impact kilometers as “confirmed”. Uploaded proofs are treated confidentially and used solely to verify the impact payment.

These points are under legal and tax review before the final version:

  • Wording and binding nature of the supporter conditions
  • Handling of kilometer goals that are not reached
  • Distinction between donation and sponsoring
  • VAT treatment of the service fee
  • Notes on the donation receipt
  • Liability for unpaid impact budget
  • Data protection for the proof upload
